Protein Sources...for those who say not eating meat does not allow you to have enough protein.
While just about every vegetarian food contains some protein, the soybean deserves special mention, for it contains all the essential amino acids and surpasses all other food plants in the amount of protein that it can deliver to the human system. In this regard, it is nearly equal to meat. The human body is able to digest 92 percent of the protein found in meat and 91 percent of that found in soybeans. The many different and delicious soy products (such as tempeh, soy “hot dogs” and “burgers,” Tofutti brand “ice cream,” soy milk, and tofu) available in health and grocery stores suggest that the soybean, in its many forms, can accommodate a wide range of tastes.

Other rich sources of non-animal protein include legumes, nuts, seeds, yeast, and freshwater algae. Although food yeasts (“nutritional yeast” and “brewer’s yeast”) do not lend themselves to forming the center of one’s diet, they are extremely nutritious additions to most menus (in soups, gravies, breads, casseroles, and dips). Most yeasts get about 50 percent of their calories from protein.

i dont think ive ever heard anyone argue that..?
clearly u can get protein it takes an idiot to think that..but like sources or other things u need to be aware of but they;re still found in other foods...for example..iron..and how it can be found in like bok choy...so being vegetarian is fine..just means sometimes u either have to REALLY watch what you eat or take supplements

Niki McNaught and Maegan Kellas were both arguing that you cannot get enough protein from not eating meat, or even red-meat. I'm glad there's at least one person I know who's not an idiot, thanks Steph for your comment.

It is still very hard to get it and it does lack alot of stuff, yes you can make up for it elsewhere but alot of people have trouble doing it and just don't bother. Meat is just an excelent sourse of it as well as other vitamins.

If people wanna eat meat, fucking let them.

Correct me if I'm wrong...but I got the impression that you weren't trying to convince other people to not eat meat. That you were more just trying to show people that you know what you're doing, and that you can stay healthy without eating meat.
It SOUNDS like they were trying to convince you that you can't eat healthy and be a vegetarian, and you were just trying to defend yourself.

you are correct there Melissa, I do not feel I have any right to tell people not to eat meat, it's their choice.

I know more then one Maegan, and I hafta have some way of distinguishing between the two, either way, it's on my livejournal, and it's not like a lot of people read it anyways.

I'm pretty sure I'm the only one that spells it that way though. I know I'm not the only one in the world - but I'm the only one that you know.

I know it's your livejournal, but it's my name, and I would just rather not have my full name out on the internet. It's my personal preference.

I agree with Maegan on this one, so could you please edit or remove that comment please, i have the respect enough not to place your name on the net so dont go around putting mine on there.

I am also not going to start on any other points in the above statement that are offencive or can be argued

I think...it can be hard to get enough protein if you're vegetarian and DON'T know what you're doing. Which, unfortunately, there are a lot of people like that. They don't realize that if you just looked it up on the internet you can find lots of places to find protein.
I do agree with Steph though. It's not so much finding protein that is the problem. It's finding the other nutrients and certain vitamins. It can also be hard to keep your diet BALANCED. Like any diet, you can get everything you need. You just have to know what you're doing. And like I said, a lot of people don't know what they're doing.
